BABEL FAST opened its 13th edition

BABEL FAST opened its 13th edition. As a Board Member and representative of KulturForum Europa – Europe Culture Forum here is my welcome note … some philo-social aspects … „Good afternoon, dear guest, dear colleagues and, above all, dear friends Today marks the start of the thirteenth issue of BABEL. And I’m shure 13 will become a remarkable number. I’ve been here often and it already feels like an eternity. Can you imagine a year without Babel, Târgovişte without BABEL? I can’t do and I don’t want to. Spațiu/Space/Spaces/room is the slogan of this year’s performing arts festival. What is spațiu good for … – spațiu to show up what has culturally been created, – spațiu is the venue for freedom, diversity, – spațiu is also meeting room to see, to show, to combine, – spațiu is where the lowest common denominator can develop into something great and magnificent, – spațiu can merge into space and time. – spațiu gives us the air we need to breathe and – spațiu means breathing freely, Without spațiu and the infinite possibilities, it would be quiet and lonely around us.

The artists, we all need space to develop, to ground ourselves, to free ourselves, and it brings us together, keeps us together, if only for a moment, for an hour or two, if we want. There are many rooms, some are more important, some are less. You know what it means when someone says: There’s no room for you, how frustrating that can be. That won’t happen in spațiu. BABEL XIII is tremendous fun to watch here, enjoy there, discuss and come together everywhere in the space of the medium of theatre over the following days. Theatre and performing arts also create a space within a space, a space for everyone with art and artists from different parts of the world. And good old Will (Shakespeare) will be all over us. Let’s breathe the air in every room that surrounds us, filled with theatre from medieval origins to current or contemporary interpretations …

I have been organising encounters at the EuropeCultureForum for 33 years. So believe me: Babel fulfils the idea of filling a very special space in many ways. BABEL brings together so many countries… Without BABEL, it would be quieter here in Târgovişte. So! Let’s fill the space all together, in the theatres, in in the squares, in the streets and after the events in the cafés and restaurants while socialising. There will be one or more spaces for everyone.
