BABEL 2025 is not only about performances that challenge and surprise us—it is also a space for reflection, dialogue, and a deeper understanding of theatre and its history. This year, the festival brings a series of special conferences and workshops that highlight key figures and ideas essential to comprehending contemporary theatre and the actor’s craft.

One of the most notable moments will be the conference “100 Years Since the Birth of Peter Brook,” presented by Jean-Guy Lecat, a renowned figure in French culture. Peter Brook, one of the most influential directors of the 20th century, revolutionized our perception of theatre with his concepts of the “empty space” and onstage authenticity. Lecat will guide us through Brook’s life and work, illustrating the director’s immense impact on the global theatre landscape.

The festival also offers a rare opportunity to attend a workshop led by Eugenio Barba and Julia Varley, founders of Odin Teatret in Denmark. This session is an exceptional chance to learn from two major voices in experimental theatre and to understand their approach to creativity and performance.

Additionally, Jarosław Fret from the Grotowski Institute in Poland will deliver a conference on Jerzy Grotowski’s vision of the actor’s work. Grotowski, a trailblazer in modern theatre, sought a profound connection between body, mind, and soul on stage. His ideas continue to inspire artists worldwide in their quest for truth and intensity in performance.

The festival will also turn its gaze toward Asian theatre, with the lecture “The Evolution of Korean Performing Arts” by Jeungwoo Son from Kyonggi University in Seoul. This presentation will explore how a rich artistic tradition is evolving and gaining international recognition.

In a world where digital transformation is rapidly reshaping how art is shared and protected, Jean-Guy Lecat will also speak on “Copyright Law in the Performing Arts.” This seminar aims to help artists and producers better understand the legal rights associated with their creative work.

Through these conferences and workshops, BABEL 2025 offers a unique and immersive experience for both artists and audiences. Each discussion becomes a journey into the heart of theatre, challenging us to look beyond the stage and discover how the magic of performance is truly built. Thus, the festival is not only about shows—it is about living and feeling theatre in all its forms.
