Nomadic Theater Company’s play, `Medea’s Voice`, unpacks the well-known Greek tragedy Medea from an entirely new perspective. Usually, Medea is depicted as a terrifying and mad woman who murdered her own brother and killed her own children for revenge. However, this play focuses on how that narrative was constructed and what Medea’s real story is. Through the play, we understand why Medea speaks of herself as a destructive being. She is burdened by the label of „barbarian”, the betrayal of the man she loved, Jason, and the guilt of not being able to protect her children. Crucially, unlike the familiar tale, the play reveals that Medea’s brother was killed by her own father, who feared his son inheriting the throne, and her children were murdered by Creon’s men, who refused to accept the offspring of a foreigner as royalty. Ultimately, `Medea’s Voice` is a story that unveils the truth behind the false rumors and prejudices against Medea, told from her own perspective. It shows how a powerless „barbarian” woman became a victim of the schemes of those in power and societal prejudice. After seeing this play, you will reconsider the pain and anger hidden behind the distorted heroic narratives. You will come to realize the cruel consequences that can arise from humanity’s desire for power.

The Nomad Theater Company was founded in 1997 and is based on staging landmark plays from the 1920s and 1930s. It has explored and continues to explore new forms of theater, with its members investigating the essence of new and old dramaturgy.

Spectacolul companiei Nomad Theater prezintă celebra tragedie greacă „Medeea” dintr-o perspectivă complet nouă. De obicei, Medeea este înfățișată ca o femeie terifiantă și nebună care și-a ucis fratele și proprii copii din răzbunare. Cu toate acestea, montarea de față se concentrează asupra modului în care a fost construită această narațiune și asupra adevăratei povești a Medeei. Prin intermediul acestui spectacol înțelegem de ce Medeea vorbește despre ea însăși ca despre o ființă distructivă. Este împovărată de eticheta de „barbară”, de trădarea bărbatului pe care îl iubea, Iason, și de vinovăția de a nu-și putea proteja copiii. Compania de teatru Nomad Theater a fost înființată în 1997 și se bazează punerea în scenă a unor piese de referință din anii ’20 – ’30. A explorat și explorează noi forme de teatru, membrii săi cercetând esența dramaturgiei noi și vechi.
