‘King Lear’ play, staged by the director Dumitru Acriș, answers the questions: What is time… What kind of time do we live in…. and how we perceive this time… ‘King Lear’, written by William Shakespeare in 1605, is up-to-date because of the relationship between parents and their children, the dialogue between the generations in a family. „This is not a political play, there is plenty of love in it, it discusses the relationship between parents and their children. All starts with the end of the play, during the storm in which Lear remembers the events that he had stirred. It touches on themes such as betrayal, lies, madness and the avoidance of the truth”, the director Dumitru Acriș mentions. The play is also about the philosophy of power, about what power does to a person. „The moments when we can preserve ourselves as people, to survive as such, are very important. The love between us and how long it lasts. Children love their parents. Parents love their children. This is embroidered in the development of the characters of the play, and a person grows old precisely by ceasing to love”, says actor Milen Dimitrov, who plays King Lear.

Starting with the 1902 year, the remarkable building, a pearl of the Ruse architecture – the Dohodno Zdanie – became the primary venue for performances. In 1907, after several years of disputes, the Ruse theatre artists united and founded the City Theatre in Ruse with Alexander Robertovich, who had participated in the famous troupe of Matej Ikonomov – „Contemporary Theatre”, as artistic director. A theatre committee was also established by prominent Ruse citizens and the municipality began to subsidize the theatre activities. In the 1910/1911 season, the great Bulgarian actress Roza Popova was elected as the first director, contributing to the rapid professionalism of the ensemble. On the 9th of April 1942, by decree of Tsar Boris III, the theatre was proclaimed as a state theatre, and since then it has been financed by the Ministry of Culture. This status remains to this day. State Drama Theatre of Ruse has the ambition to attract new audiences with diversified, interactive and provocative repertory, often based on modern technologies which touches on important topics of contemporary life.

Piesa „Regele Lear”, pusă în scenă de regizorul Dumitru Acriș, răspunde la întrebările: Ce este timpul… În ce fel de timp trăim… și cum percepem acest timp. „Regele Lear” scrisă de William Shakespeare în 1605 este actuală datorită relației dintre părinți și copii, dialogului dintre generații în cadrul unei familii. „Nu este o piesă politică, este plină de dragoste, discută despre relația dintre părinți și copii. Totul începe cu finalul piesei, cu furtuna în care Lear își amintește de evenimentele pe care le-au stârnit hotărârile lui. Atinge teme precum trădarea, minciuna, nebunia și evitarea adevărului”, menționează regizorul Dumitru Acriș. Piesa este și despre filosofia puterii, despre ceea ce poate face puterea dintr-o persoană. „Momentele în care trebuie să ne prezervăm ca oameni, să supraviețuim ca atare, sunt foarte importante. Dragostea dintre noi și cât durează ea. Copiii își iubesc părinții. Părinții își iubesc copiii. Acest fapt este brodat în dezvoltarea personajelor piesei, iar o persoană îmbătrânește tocmai atunci când încetează să mai iubească”, spune actorul Milen Dimitrov, care îl interpretează pe Regele Lear.

Din 1902, remarcabila clădire, o perlă a arhitecturii din Ruse – Dohodno Zdanie – a devenit principalul loc de desfășurare a spectacolelor. În 1907, după mai mulți ani de dispute, artiștii teatrului din Ruse s-au unit și au fondat Teatrul Orășenesc din Ruse, avându-l ca director artistic pe Alexandr Robertovici, care participase la celebra trupă a lui Matej Ikonomov – „Teatrul Contemporan”. De asemenea, a fost înființat un comitet de teatru de către cetățeni proeminenți din Ruse, iar municipalitatea a început să subvenționeze activitățile teatrale. În stagiunea 1910/1911, marea actriță bulgară Roza Popova a fost aleasă prim director, contribuind rapid la profesionalismul ansamblului. Pe 9 aprilie 1942, prin decret al țarului Boris al III-lea, teatrul a fost proclamat teatru de stat, iar de atunci a fost finanțat de Ministerul Culturii. Acest statut se păstrează și în prezent. Teatrul Dramatic de Stat din Ruse are ambiția de a atrage public nou cu un repertoriu diversificat, interactiv și provocator, adesea bazat pe tehnologii moderne, care abordează subiecte importante ale vieții contemporane.
